Promotions:

Joanna Pascucci has been promoted to the newly created position of Retail Sales Manger for Metro New York/Long Island. Please join us in congratulating her in this well deserved promotion.

Awards:

 B.I.N. received an Outstanding Sales Award for 1999 from Food for Life.

Ecover named B.I.N. "Broker of the Year" for 1999.

New Hires:

Peter Psaledas has joined B.I.N., as the company’s new Grocery Sales Rep for the eastern New England territory, including NH, ME, RI, and MA, as well as metro Boston. Peter was formerly the Grocery Manager at DeMoulas Market Basket store in Nashua, NH.

John Mullins is our New NYC Grocery Sales Rep. John comes to us from Acosta, where he was a territory manager for supermarkets and convenience stores.

Mike Polk is the new Supermarket Sales Rep for our Southeast division. Mike comes to us from Haddon House where he was the Regional Sales Manager for Independent Accounts/Florida. His prior experience includes store management with the Farm Fresh and Safeway Supermarket chains.

Steven Menard has assumed the position of merchandiser for the New England area, replacing Paul Embree. Steven was a Territory Manager with Keebler for 17 years.

Jason Cartwright will be providing Merchandising services in the CT, Westchester (NY) area. Jason was a manager at the Division St. Grill in Peekskill, NY and is currently a student at Mercy College.

Mary Mazziott is our new Merchandiser MD DC VA. Mary was a merchandiser and trainer for Spar Marketing Force in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Laurie Digrigoli is the new Receptionist/Assistant in our Norwalk office. Laurie comes to us from a law firm and has previous experience in the travel industry.

Barbara Lalibertie will be our new Brand Manager. Barbara joins us from United Natural Foods where she was a buyer for NBC products.

Josi Burgess joins our Customer Service department in Torrington, after 34 years as Shipping Coordinator for The Torrington Co

Jean Pillarella also joins our Customer Service department in Torrington, with 15 years of purchasing and customer service experience at the Susan Wakeen Doll Company.

David Fitch is our new merchandiser for VT, Western MA, and Northern CT to Hartford area

Prior to BIN he was the grocery buyer and manager of Hawthorne Valley Farm Store.

Carol Gorski is our new Payroll Accountant. She has many years of payroll experience with the Torrington Company, a division of Ingersoll Rand.

Anne Schiller will be our Assistant Key Account Manager, SE Division and Retail Sales Rep for northeast Florida. She was with TOLSE for the past ten years as a buyer and trade relations coordinator.

Lisa Petrone has returned to SuperNutrition as director of purchasing. Welcome Back Lisa!

Bob O’Hearn has left Haddon House to accept a position as VP of Marketing for Tree of Life in Hayward CA. We wish Bob the best of luck in his new position!

As a result of Kevin Donohoe leaving UNFI to accept a position at Newman’s Own Organics. Shawn Marvel will be responsible for Hannaford, Stop & Shop and Giant, Art Adamson will be responsible for Wegmans and Eric Hutchinson will be responsible for Tops.

Tony Music has been appointed the new VP of Purchasing for Tree of Life Southeast.

Jack Phillips has been appointed the new interim President of Tree of Life Southeast, Jack replaces John Arrowsmith.

Alicia Fitzpatrick is now the category manager of Grocery Natural Food and Specialty for the DSD portion of Wakefern, which services 195 Shop Rite stores.

Gourmet Award Foods N.E. has named Chuck Ramsbacher president. Chuck previously worked for Nash Finch. The newly named CFO is Brittany Benjamin

Michael Cohen, buyer for Tree of Life Northeast  will be leaving to go to C & S distributing. No replacement has been named.

Tops Markets has appointed Frank Curci who was the Chief Operating officer, as the new President and CEO. Frank replaces Steve Ohland who was recently promoted to the newly created position of Chief Operating Officer of Ahold USA, Tops’ parent company.

Gourmet Awards has appointed Maureen Adams to manage their Safeway retail business in the Mid-Atlantic. She replaces Eli Scholossberg who has moved over to the kosher food business for Gourmet Awards.

RETAIL UPDATE

Kings is no longer for sale and will not be purchased by White Rose. Kings parent company has agreed to Kings sales plan to double sales in 5 years. They are slated to open four new stores in 2000.Garden City, and Merrick Long Island, Wykoff and Saddlebrook NJ.

Dean Salah will be the regional buyer for all NE Wild Oats Stores. He is located at the Sagaus, MA store.

Jim Ware is the new Regional Director for the Wild Oats Northeast Region. Jim will be located at the West Hartford, CT Store.

Rich Cutter has moved from A&P to Food Emporium working directly as a Vice President for Lou Ruggerio, President

Hannaford announced that it plans to close 13 stores in the Southeast region (Mid Atlantic). In addition they will sell 38 stores in Virginia & North Carolina as part of the divestiture plan with their acquisition by Dalhaize/Food Lion. The sales of these stores will go to Kroger, Lowes and Richland. When the plan is completed Hannaford will own & operate 104 stores in New England and Upstate NY

A&P Food Mart has switched natural food suppliers from UNFI to Gourmet Awards Northeast. A & P recently names Kevin McDonald Senior VP of sales, Merchandising for the Atlantic Region

Pathmark stores, Inc. will ask its bondholders to support a restructuring plan that will allow the debt laden supermarket company to continue normal operations while it reorganizes. They have filed a Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization plan. Pathmark intends to continue business as usual during the restructuring with Pathmark associates and trade creditors continuing to be paid without disruption.

 New Store Openings  / Expansions:

Nutrition Worlds’ PGA Boulevards store has just announced expansion. They will acquire an adjacent storefront and will be over 11,00 square feet once the renovation is completed. Aaron Travis will take over the Grocery buying, while Frank Waller will retain the supplement side

Winn-Dixie has purchased all but three Goodings stores. These stores will run under the Goodings name for approximately one year. The stores not purchased by Winn-Dixie are Lake Buena Vista, Celebration and I-Drive.

Earth Fare will expand their Ashville NC to 8,000 Sq. ft. in August 2000.

Harris Teeter has signed eight leases in the Washington DC area and already has opened one store in Arlington VA. They plan to move into the Tidewater, VA area but they consider Richmond well covered by Ukrop's and will stay out of Richmond.

The Fort Lauderdale Wild Oats will begin expansion in August 2000. The West Palm Beach Wild Oats will move to a new location in Mid October. The Boca Raton Wild Oats will begin its expansion in November 2000

Earth Fare plans to open its Columbia, SC store in late July. The Knoxville, TN. will open this fall.

Wild Oats plans to open its Westport, CT store in December 2000.

Stop & Shop has announced that 73 Edwards stores will be converted to Stop & Shops this summer. BIN will be active in this transition.

There will be no new Whole Foods stores opening in Florida during 2000. The relocation of the Federal Highway Store has been delayed.
