Kevin Baliles joined B.I.N. on August 25th as the Mid-Atlantic Supermarket Key Account Rep. Kevin comes to B.I.N. with 21 years of supermarket industry experience, having worked for Cooks Supermarkets, Colorado Supers and DPI Mid-Atlantic Distributing. Kevin brings a wealth of supermarket and distributor knowledge to B.I.N.

Jorge Sanchez joined B.I.N. on August 18th as the South Florida NBC Sales Rep. Jorge comes to B.I.N. after working as an Independent Sales Rep where he was responsible for selling and merchandising product to Whole Foods Markets, Wild Oats and independent retail locations in the South Florida Area. In addition, Jorge had owned his own retail business for 6 years. Jorge comes to B.I.N. with 6 years of industry experience and 19 years of sales experience. Jorge brings a wealth of NBC product and retail knowledge to B.I.N.

Meagan Kessel joined B.I.N. on August 12th, 2003, as a Marketing Support Coordinator. Based in our Scituate, Rhode Island office. Prior to joining BIN, Meagan was completing a Bachelor's degree in Advertising and Brand Management at the University of Massachusetts (Amherst). She has previous experience with advertising, marketing and merchandising in the retail toy industry. Meagan brings a ton of energy and enthusiasm to B.I.N.

Casey Levine had done some temporary Payroll work for BIN in early 2003 and is now contributing about ten hours a week helping Linda Mueller. Casey is currently working on an accounting degree and has been a merchandiser for both Eastern Sales and MAI.

Rocco Monaco will be joining B.I.N. on September 22nd as the Central/North Florida Retail Sales Rep. Rocco comes to B.I.N. after working as a Food & Beverage Manager for the past 3 Years. He has also worked as an Nutritional Supplement Sales Rep calling on natural stores in Florida. Rocco comes to B.I.N. with 5 years of natural industry and sales experience. 

Irene Yovu will be joining B.I.N. on September 29th as the Florida Retail Sales Manager. In this position, Irene will also ultimately take responsibility for making the Grocery and NBC headquarter call at Whole Foods Florida. Irene comes to B.I.N. with 12 years of years of natural industry sales and management experience. She has a successful record of managing key accounts and building strong relationships in the Southeast. Irene brings a total of 16 years of industry experiene, retail knowledge and nutritional experience to B.I.N.

GREAT NEWS FROM B.I.N!

BIN Sales and Marketing is significantly fortifying our selling efforts in the Southern Market. Effective this month, we will institute the following changes:

Add our fifth Retail Sales Manager, a new position responsible solely for the state of Florida

Split the Atlanta Metro Market, dedicating separate Sales Representatives for NBC and Grocery selling efforts

Hire two exceptional, experienced Sales Representatives, filling all open positions in our Southern territory 

BIN is excited to announce that Irene Yuvo will join our team on September 29th , as Florida Sales Manager, responsible for managing all BIN Reps in the state. Irene comes to BIN with over a dozen years experience in the Florida natural market. She will also handle Whole Foods Florida headquarter work for NBC and Grocery.

Brian Otis will continue as Sales Manager for North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia, and will maintain headquarter responsibilities for Earth Fare. Lesley Daily and Barbie Walls will also continue to report to Brian.

BIN is also pleased to announce that Barbie Walls will be taking over the Whole Foods South (Atlanta) headquarter calls for Grocery and NBC.

We also welcome Rocco Monaco as North Florida Sales Representative, and Jorge Sanchez as South Florida Nutrition and NBC Sales Representative, to our team.

Barbara's Bakery awards BIN highest sales increase Northeast 2003 at Expo East!

Barbara's Bakery awarded BIN's customer service department for excellent service in the industry at Expo East!

Catherine Hacopian, NY Sales Rep qualified for and won a trip to the rainforest from Guayaki Sustainable Rainforest!

Gail Shapiro won $500 from Guyakaki Sustainable Rainforest for having 15+ new placements. Six people qualified nationally and four were from BIN!

Fleming Companies, Inc has sold their wholesale grocery business to C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc. With this agreement, C&S has agreed to promptly begin supplying Fleming with selected products for distribution to Fleming retail customers.

Millbrook has appointed Donna Riley to one of their two natural foods buyer positions reporting to Ken McLaughlin, category manager/natural foods.

Tree of Life, Inc has achieved "certified organic" status under the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Organic Program. Certification verified by Quality Assurance International.

United Natural Foods, Inc has made the following organizational changes:

Dan Atwood, senior vice president, has been appointed interim President of UNFI’s Hershey division replacing Eric Zitelli.

Amie Thayer has been appointed to the position of supplement buyer. She was formerly employed by Stow Mills as key account rep for Fresh Fields.

Allison Coleman has been promoted to the position of perishable buyer. She has developed a strong background in the field as an assistant.

RETAIL UPDATE:

 

Ahold has announced that chairman of its supervisory board, Henny de Ruiter, has resigned. De Ruiter is succeeded by Karel Vuursteenan.

Berkshire Coop anticipates moving into their new 5,000 s.f. store by the end of October 2003.

Hawthorne Valley Food Coop is planning on moving into their 5,000 s.f. store 1st Qtr. 2004.

Middlebury Coop anticipates moving into their new location 3rd Qtr. 2004.

Mrs. Green’s Natural Market, with 10 locations in New York and Connecticut, will open a new store in Briarcliff, NY on Jan 15, 2004. This is part of an ongoing expansion plan that will see additional growth of Mrs. Green’s stores in the Tri-State area.

National Cooperative Grocers Association has announced Annie Hunt has taken on the newly created position of national promotions manager for the organization.

Penn Traffic CEO Joseph Fisher has resigned making Steven Panagos, chief restructuring officer, interim CEO. The company has set up a search committee for a new CEO. Joseph Fisher will continue to sit on the board.

Stop & Shop has announced that Karen Kuhn has been promoted to Account Manager replacing Dick Struthers who has moved over to Alberts Organics.

Sunflower Natural Foods, in Stowe Vt. is planning on opening their 2,000 s.f. store on November 1, 2003.

Supervalu and C&S Wholesale Grocers have announced they will switch facilities, allowing each to strengthen its operating efficiencies. Supervalu will acquire three Midwest facilities formerly operated by Fleming and C&S is picking up four New England Facilities formerly operated by Supervalu-in Portland, ME; Andover, MA; Cranston, RI and Suffield, CT.

Ukrop’s Super Markets is planning on opening its first inner-city store in Richmond, VA. The privately owned chain, known for its innovative upscale merchandising, is set to take over a 30,000 s.f. space.

Wegmans has announced that Charlie Gardner, Assistant Category Merchant of Nature’s Marketplace has recently been promoted to Category Merchant reporting to Dave Wagner.

Wild Oats Markets, Inc announced that it will relocate its Belmont Blvd. Store in Nashville, Tennessee to a new location at 1735 Galleria St. in Franklin, Tenn. The new Wild Oats location is roughly 32,000 s.f., about 8 times the size of the previous location. With this move comes the announcement of plans to hire over 140 full and part time employees.

Whole Foods is opening a new store in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The footprint is 46,000 s.f., and retail area will be over 41,000 s.f. making it the largest Whole Foods for Whole Foods South. The store is scheduled to open April 12, 2004.

Whole Foods has also announced the opening of a new Atlanta Buckhead Store. The store is scheduled to open Fall2004. The store will occupy 36,873 s.f. of retail space in the Buckhead neighborhood at 77 West Paces Ferry Road.

Mararet Wittenberg has taken on an expanded role at Whole Foods Market. Most previously serving as vice president of governmental and public affairs, she will now lead the marketing, public relations and consumer research efforts within the company. She has worked diligently at Whole Foods for over 22 years.

Gabrille Greene and Mo Siegel have been named to Whole Foods Board of Directors. Gabrille Greene is CFO of the Villanueva Companies in Los Angeles, a private holding company with diverse investment interests. Mo Siegel co-founded Celestial Seasonings, Inc., where he was chairman and CEO for more than 25 years.
