Ahold has
announced that chairman of its supervisory board, Henny de Ruiter, has
resigned. De Ruiter is succeeded by Karel Vuursteenan.
Berkshire Coop anticipates
moving into their new 5,000 s.f. store by the end of October 2003.
Hawthorne Valley Food
Coop is
planning on moving into their 5,000 s.f. store 1st Qtr. 2004.
Middlebury Coop anticipates
moving into their new location 3rd Qtr. 2004.
Mrs. Green’s
Natural Market, with
10 locations in New York and Connecticut, will open a new store in
Briarcliff, NY on Jan 15, 2004. This is part of an ongoing expansion plan
that will see additional growth of Mrs. Green’s stores in the Tri-State
area.
National Cooperative
Grocers Association has
announced Annie Hunt has taken on the newly created position of national
promotions manager for the organization.
Penn Traffic CEO
Joseph Fisher has resigned making Steven Panagos, chief restructuring
officer, interim CEO. The company has set up a search committee for a new
CEO. Joseph Fisher will continue to sit on the board.
Stop & Shop
has announced that Karen Kuhn has been promoted to Account Manager
replacing Dick Struthers who has moved over to Alberts Organics.
Sunflower Natural
Foods, in
Stowe Vt. is planning on opening their 2,000 s.f. store on November 1,
2003.
Supervalu and C&S
Wholesale Grocers have
announced they will switch facilities, allowing each to strengthen its
operating efficiencies. Supervalu will acquire three Midwest facilities
formerly operated by Fleming and C&S is picking up four New England
Facilities formerly operated by Supervalu-in Portland, ME; Andover, MA;
Cranston, RI and Suffield, CT.
Ukrop’s Super
Markets is
planning on opening its first inner-city store in Richmond, VA. The
privately owned chain, known for its innovative upscale merchandising, is
set to take over a 30,000 s.f. space.
Wegmans has
announced that Charlie Gardner, Assistant Category Merchant of Nature’s
Marketplace has recently been promoted to Category Merchant reporting to
Dave Wagner.
Wild Oats Markets,
Inc announced
that it will relocate its Belmont Blvd. Store in Nashville, Tennessee to a
new location at 1735 Galleria St. in Franklin, Tenn. The new Wild Oats
location is roughly 32,000 s.f., about 8 times the size of the previous
location. With this move comes the announcement of plans to hire over 140
full and part time employees.
Whole Foods
is opening a new store in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The footprint is
46,000 s.f., and retail area will be over 41,000 s.f. making it the
largest Whole Foods for Whole Foods South. The store is scheduled to open
April 12, 2004.
Whole Foods
has also announced the opening of a new Atlanta Buckhead Store. The
store is scheduled to open Fall2004. The store will occupy 36,873 s.f.
of retail space in the Buckhead neighborhood at 77 West Paces Ferry
Road.
Mararet Wittenberg
has taken on an expanded role at Whole Foods Market. Most previously
serving as vice president of governmental and public affairs, she will
now lead the marketing, public relations and consumer research efforts
within the company. She has worked diligently at Whole Foods for over 22
years.
Gabrille Greene
and Mo Siegel have been named to Whole Foods Board of Directors.
Gabrille Greene is CFO of the Villanueva Companies in Los Angeles, a
private holding company with diverse investment interests. Mo Siegel
co-founded Celestial Seasonings, Inc., where he was chairman and CEO for
more than 25 years.
